1850年10月29日，葡萄牙“瑪麗亞二世”號巡洋艦遭炸毀沉沒。爆炸是一名船員的報復所為，用300桶火藥炸毀了這艘船，並損壞及擊沉了周邊的船隻，造成200人身亡。為悼念事件，氹仔設有紀念碑。（原文︰The incident happened on 29 October 1850. Few personal tensions on board ship can have had such disastrous consequences as those that sank the Dona Maria II, a frigate in the Portuguese Navy. A vengeful crewman blew the ship up with 300 barrels of gunpowder, damaging or sinking nearby vessels and killing 200 people. There is a memorial to the event on Taipa Island.）
